NAFA's Mission Statement

To conduct education and certification programs for members and end-user personnel; to provide forums for the exchange of information about technical standards, government regulations and product information; to educate end-users about the importance of air filtration and NAFA certifications; to certify air filtration products and to set field performance standards for products.

Certification

NAFA has two accreditation programs:

NAFA Certified Technician: The NCT is for those individual facility managers and HVAC technicians involved directly with the installation, operation and maintenance of air filtration systems on a daily basis. This certification utilizes the Installation, Operation and Maintenance of Air Filtration Systems text.

The NCT certification can be taken online (click the Exams link on the left).

Certified Air Filter Specialist: The CAFS is for those individuals working with clients and customers to specify, manufacture, distribute, sell or service air filtration. This certification utilizes the NAFA Guide to Air Filtration as the study text.

Both certifications involve study, passing a national examination and ongoing yearly continuing education units for maintaining the accreditation. Both programs are designed to meet the demands of building owners, HVAC service contractors and others who employ technicians in the HVAC industry for cleaner indoor air.

Education

NAFA has an ongoing program of education for both members and the user community. Twice each year, NAFA members gather for continuing education and to learn about current practice and application of air filters, emerging technologies of allied industries that compliment or add to air filtration, and current research on HVAC and air filter application.

Additionally, NAFA members are trained to present a number of educational programs for the user community to help them better understand and apply air filtration technology to their buildings.

Each year since 1996, NAFA has sponsored and recognized the efforts of users who go the extra mile to assure clean air in their facilities. The Clean Air Award is presented to individuals and companies who meet specified criteria for upgrading and maintaining their HVAC air filtration system. The NAFA website, www.nafahq.org has a listing of current and past recipients.

Air Media is the quarterly publication by NAFA for members and users to keep them current on information happening in the air filter industry. Air Media highlights current applications by members and other industry representatives and features announcements of products and services in the air filter industry. Under the Microscope, Technology Corner and Did You Know articles in Air Media provide insight into medical information, latest technology and current changes in standards, guidelines and government regulations.

NAFA Certified Product (NCP)

NAFA has a product certification program in place which allows manufacturers to submit products for independent third-party testing to ANSI/ASHRAE 52.2-1999 method of test, to assure that the product tested meets the claims of the manufacturer. With many products in the marketplace making false claims about performance, the NCP provides the end user a way of assuring validity in product performance.
