OSHA 1910.146 Confined Space Safety General Industry | ANSI/ASSE Z117.1-2009 Safety Requirements for Confined Spaces

Confined spaces can be found at workplaces and facilities across every industry nationwide. OSHA’s standards for confined space entry have major implications for employers and workers involved in general industry operations. These standards require a thorough understanding of the perspective and enforcement approaches used by OSHA regarding confined spaces.

By complying with federal regulations and following nationally recognized safe industry practices concerning confined spaces, employers and workers alike will help reduce and prevent the risks confined spaces pose to workers including serious injury, illness, or death.

In this course, you’ll learn:

  • How OSHA’s new confined space regulations affect general industry workers, and the pitfalls surrounding proper designation of workplaces
  • How the type of work conducted determines which regulations (general industry or construction) OSHA will use and how that effects the worker and employer
  • OSHA’s focus on multi-employer worksites, how OSHA expects employers to manage these sites and what training employees must have for entering confined spaces on multi-employer sites
  • How existing and potential confined space hazards can negatively affect worker safety and health
  • How precautionary and preventative measures can be taken to help protect workers from some of the most common confined space hazards
  • …..and much, much more!

Compliance with these regulations and industry standards also affects your organization’s financial risk due to audit findings, fines, litigation, and insurance costs. Help protect yourself, your workers, and your organization by registering for this training today.

Who Should Take This Course?

Employees in general industry who enter confined spaces, or provide direct support to those who enter confined spaces. Individuals who are certified or pursuing certification in other areas of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), such as HAZWOPER, Hydrogen Sulfide Awareness, and Emergency Response will also benefit from this course.

To comply with federal regulations, OSHA now requires employers and employees to be knowledgeable in all aspects of worker health and safety before and during a confined space entry. These regulations apply to workers in general industry (as defined by OSHA and ANSI/ASSE standards). OSHA’s ability to widen the enforcement and include both federal regulations and national standards (as it relates to the type of site your employees work on) can have a demonstrable effect on your risk management approach, especially when they are not widely understood.

This course covers the correct way to comply with federal regulations and follow nationally recognized safe industry practices when entering confined spaces. With a proper understanding of these applications, employers and workers work together to reduce and prevent serious injury, illness or death when working in and around confined spaces.

This self-paced, online course was developed to provide students the opportunity to gain knowledge and comprehension regarding confined space safe entry by following government regulations and recognized safe industry practices for general industry.

NOTICE: OSHA requires employers to provide additional follow-on training specific to the hazards employees encounter at each site before entry including; health hazards, PPE and other risks that may be encountered.

Since it is impossible to identify every situation where confined spaces might be present, this training course was designed to complement an employer’s site-specific training. This course should be augmented by employer-provided site-specific, hands-on training.
