DOT HAZMAT Transportation Seminar Course – Complete Certification
Who Should Take This Course?
Anyone involved in selecting a package, marking a container, applying a label, preparing paperwork (e.g. Bills of Lading, Manifests etc.) or handling a hazardous material.
The DOT Hazmat Transportation course certifies employees in in the safe and legal transportation of hazmat within the US (domestically) as required by the Department of Transportation (DOT). This one-day seminar covers the training requirements of 49 CFR 172.704 which state: “Any person involved in offering a hazardous material for transportation must be properly trained…sic”
Per DOT requirements, training must be refreshed every 3 yearsand employees may notperform materials shipping functions “unsupervised” until this training has been completed. The seminar takes a unique “10-step” approach to properly shipping, handling and transporting hazardous materials. Each of the 10 elements are explained during class using a combination of lecture and hands-on examples and scenarios that provide a real-world view of what “to do” and what “NOT to do“.
DOT HAZMAT Transportation contains hands on exercises for each stage of preparing and shipping hazardous materials. Students should be prepared to participate in class discussions, group exercises and class labs:
At the conclusion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify the proper shipping methods for hazardous materials in air, water, and land.
- Recognize information needed on shipping papers for specific types of hazardous wastes
- Utilize proper labeling, marking, and placarding required for hazardous waste transportation
- Develop information gathering techniques needed for required incident reporting and emergency notification
- Show understanding of the documentation for shipping papers and manifests.
Completion Instructions, Requirements, and Checklist
To complete the certification process, all employees MUST complete function-specific training to demonstrate competency. DOT regulations require all students to pass a certification exam which is given at the end of the course. A Certificate of Completion signed by the Instructor and Compliance Solutions, along with a personal wallet card, are awarded upon successfully passing the exam and completing the course requirements.
